Situation:

I was an architectural designer at PWD in Beijing, when Cracow Music Academy announced a competition for designing a new campus nearby the Vistula river.

A bird-view of the campus in the panorama of Cracow.

Task:

The main task was to prepare an architectural conception of a new campus that would respect the historical heritage of the Cracow, but present modern style.

The main plaza in the campus, seen from entrance to the great hall.

Action:

We decided to split all departments of the academy into isolated buildings, creating small plazas between them where integration could happen. I was directly responsible for providing a comprehensive concept of the main concert hall including acoustic optimization.

An interior space of the great concert hall.

Result:

Unfortunately, our conception was not chosen, for further development. Concluding, it was not wasted time. As it was our first project outside mainland China, it provided a great experience that proved to be useful in different projects that came in the future.
